Bitumen
is one of the forms of petroleum which is black. It is obtained from crude oil.
It is also known as asphalt. It is the oldest material that is widely used for
the construction of roads due to its unique properties. It is the binding and
thermoplastic material which can bear the load. The melting point of the
bitumen is low and it can be used for the other purposes also like pipe
wrappings, damp proofing, roofing felts, etc.
Various
types of tests are performed to check the quality and safety of the bitumen
used for road construction with the help of the bitumen testing equipment.
HEICO is the manufacturing company which provides good quality testing
instruments to perform the following tests:
- Ductility
test: This test is performed to check the ability of bitumen to undergo
elongation under the traffic load on the road. It is measured by distance
in centimeters. Bitumen must be sufficiently ductile so that it does not
get cracked under the repeated traffic load. It is performed with the help
of a ductility testing machine.
- Penetration
test: This test is conducted to check whether the bitumen is hard or soft.
It is performed with the help of the penetrometer instrument which has the
standard needle. In this test, you will check the depth of penetration of
needle in the sample and it is performed under the standard conditions of
time and temperature. The depth of penetration is measured in millimeters.
In the hot climate high penetration value is used and in cold climate low
penetration value is used.
- Softening
point test: Through this test, we can check that at what temperature
bitumen attains softening under the standard conditions of the test. This
test is performed with the help of the ring and ball apparatus. If the
softening point of bitumen is high, it means that it is less susceptible
to high temperatures. Bitumen is the material which changes its state like
from semi-solid to liquid when subjected to high temperature.
- Viscosity
test: This test is performed to check the stability, fluid characteristics
of bitumen, and its ability to spread into the voids. Viscosity should not
be too high or too low because it will affect its stability. So, it is
important to check the viscosity with the help of the tar viscometer
testing equipment under the standard conditions of the test.
5.
Water
content test: It is used to check the water content present in the bitumen. If
the water content in the bitumen is high it will lead to the formation
of foam in the bitumen when it is heated at a higher
temperature.
It
is important to perform all the above tests to remove all the weaknesses from
the bitumen. For this, there is a need for an efficient and rigid bitumen extraction test apparatus so that they can bear the load. These qualities
are provided by the HEICOIN manufacturer company. All the testing types of
equipment are powered by hydraulic power packs. So, if you want the best and
latest technology machines visit this company.
